Retired Police Chief and former Secret Service Agent Timothy McCarthy recounts his life in vivid detail.
McCarthy had an integral role in protecting President Ronald Reagan during John Hinckley, Jr.’s infamous assassination attempt. McCarthy, clad in a now-iconic blue suit, covered the President. For his bravery, the Agent was awarded a bullet to the abdomen.
After recovering, McCarthy stayed with the Secret Service for several more years. He ultimately became Chief of the Orland Park Police Department in 1994, before retiring earlier this year.
McCarthy’s bravery and heroism in his Secret Service days have followed him for the last four decades—almost to a folklorish extent. But to him, he was just doing his job.
